Future This, the second album from The Big Pink, is released on 4AD on 16th January 2012.
Named after a skateboard company’s slogan from the 80s, it's an apt title. The genesis for this new record stems from the band deciding to not rush in, instead utilising their time to toy with some new studio equipment they had acquired to help them experiment more, and it was with the excitement that came with making beats so successfully that the impetus they needed to get started in earnest came.
Over the summer of 2011, with ideas flowing, they worked with producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Friendly Fires) to help them match their high ambitions. The end result does exactly that, adding more shades to The Big Pink palette, rewarding both them and listener for their patience. Future Thiscommands attention throughout with its genius gently sinking in like all good records should. The album is completed by celebrated artist KR (the man behind Krink) using his distinct paint style to ‘krink’ the album’s sleeve and give them a fresh update on the legacy of 4AD record design.

Flow Festivalilla elokuussa vieraillut, ruotsalaisista Söderbergin siskoksista koostuva folk-duo First Aid Kit julkaisee toisen studioalbuminsa The Lion´s Roar 25.1.2012. Levy on tulvillaan perinnetietoista folkia ja countrya katkeransuloisten lauluharmonioiden saattelemana. Luvassa on myös The Big Black and the Blue –debyyttiä huomattavasti bändikeskeisempi kokonaisuus. Albumi on äänitetty USA:n Omahassa paikallisten muusikoiden vahvistuksella. Bassoa levyllä soittaa tyttöjen isä Benkt ja äänityksestä vastaa musiikin monilahjakkuus Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk). Lisäksi albumilla vierailee Bright Eyesin laulaja-lauluntekijä Conor Oberst sekä americanayhtye The Felice Brothers.

Leonard Cohenin ura on jatkunut jo huikeat kuusi vuosikymmentä, mutta arvostettu taiteilija ei vielä ole eläköitymässä. Cohen julkaisee uuden studioalbuminsa "Old Ideas" keskiviikkona 1. helmikuuta.
"Old Ideas" on uusi studioalbumi kahdeksaan vuoteen, ja kymmenen laulun aiheet koskettavat runollisesti ihmisen olemisen syvällisimpiä elementtejä kuten suhdetta tuonpuoleiseen, rakkauteen, seksuaalisuuteen, menetykseen sekä kuolemaan. Levy on varmasti yksi arvostetun taiteilijan uran hengellisimmistä albumeista.
Osa levyn lauluista ja sanoituksista ovat olleet Cohenilla työn alla jo vuosia. Ensimmäiset versiot levyn kappaleista "Amen" ja "Lullaby" äänitettiin jo vuonna 2007 ja uudet kappaleet "Lullaby" sekä "the Darkness" kuultiin livenä Cohenin viimeisimmällä ja valtavan suosion saaneella maailmankiertueella, joka käsitti 247 showta 31 maassa ja saavutti kaksi miljoonaa fania.

Julkaistuaan kaksi singleä vuonna 2010, yhtye vetäytyi suomalaiselle maaseudulle Monäsiin Pohjanmaalle ja äänitti 4-biisin Into the Wilderness EP:n, (Shelflife, 2011). EP:n nimibiisi Into The Wilderness saavutti ilmestyttyään välittömästi suosiota musablogiessa ja musiikkialan lehdistössä ympäri maailman. Kappale levisi kulovalkean tavoin ja pääsi mm. www.spinner.com -musiikkimedian mp3 ja video of the day –valinnoiksi. Nykyisin Into The Wildernessiä voi kutsua hitiksi ja se valittiin Suomessakin v. 2011 parhaipien biisien joukkoon mm. Ylexillä ja Rumbassa. Syksyllä 2011 Johan Ekström ja Niko Kivikangas liittyivät bändiin ja nykyinen kokoonpano oli valmis. Burning Hearts soitti syksyllä 2011 keikkoja mm. Tukholmassa, Tallinnassa ja muutaman Suomessa, jonka jälkeen he vetäytyivät takaisin äänittämään uutta albumia.

Kotimainen tulokas Nopat sekoittaa musiikissaan tuttuja aineksia tuoreella tavalla. Kappaleissa kuuluu kaikuja perinteisestä popista, folkista ja iskelmästä, mutta myös tuoreemmasta vaihtoehtoisesta kitaramusiikista. Trion pelkistetyt kappaleet soivat ilmavasti maalaillen lempeitä tuokiokuvia. Henrikki Lähdesmäen sanoitukset käsittelevät toiveikkaan haikeasti kaukokaipuuta, koti-ikävää, sydämenasioita sekä arjen pieniä havaintoja.
Vuonna 2010 yhtyeen omakustanteiset single ja EP ihastuttuvat melodisilla kappaleillaan ja vaivattomalla poljennollaan. Blues Funeral is the new Mark Lanegan Band record, the first since 2004's Bubblegum. It was recorded in Hollywood, California by Alain Johannes at his 11ad studio. The music was played by Johannes and Jack Irons with appearances from Greg Dulli, Josh Homme et al.
Mark Lanegan has sung with Screaming Trees, Queens Of the Stone Age, The Twilight Singers, The Gutter Twins, Soulsavers and Isobel Campbell. He resides in Los Angeles and has two dogs.
Blues Funeral will be available digitally and on CD and LP on February 6th, 2012 via 4AD.

Welcome to Maraqopa population, 2. Damien Jurado’s newest collaboration with producer Richard Swift drops us into a brutal and benevolent landscape. The bold strokes and new turns the pair made with 2010′s Saint Bartlett are taken even further. He throws open the gate on his oft insular dirges and allows them do some real wilding out in the canyon. In Maraqopa, the vistas are miles-wide; the action is more dynamic; the close-ups sweaty and snarling. The strummed desert blues that begin “Nothing is the News” quickly bursts open into an Eddie Hazel-worthy supernova shred session, all of it swirling in tinny-psych and Echoplex’d howls. We’ve never heard anything like this from Jurado.

MR. M started in a painter’s studio in fact. Wagner explains. “As I worked, I was approached by Mark Nevers (former full time band member & producer for the likes of Andrew Bird and Will Oldham) with the idea of making another Lambchop record. He had a concept of a sound and a method that worked with the tone of my writing. His idea was a kind of ‘psycho-Sinatra’ sound, one that involved the arranging of strings and other sounds in a more open and yet complex way. It was a studio creation, not a type of recording based on band performance, and this was a radical approach for us. I felt Lambchop had one more good record in us, and this time I was going to do things as directly and true to my desires as possible.”
The new record starts with some casual cursing yet the last word is ‘love’. It began when singer-songwriter-guitarist-mastermind Kurt Wagner turned away from music and picked up his brushes to paint his way out of a funk that followed the premature death of friend Vic Chesnutt, who the band backed on 1998’s The Salesman and Bernadette. And though the sprawling multi-headed quiet juggernaut that is Lambchop most often treasure performance over artifice, their eleventh album is very much a studio creation.
